WHAT?

The project Mundane Heroics is a performance based on a live roleplay scenario. This project was initiated by Kristoffer Ørum and Live Art Denmark. Nilas Dumstrei was invited to join as game developer and facilitator with an expertise in live action roleplay.

HOW?
For the project 9 young adults age 16-20 participated in a 5 days workshop at Schloss Bröllin in Germany. They we’re introduced to the universe Mundania, a world where they had superhero alter ego’s. They we’re each asked to invent a power based on an everyday activity from their life’s.
This could be doing the dishes, watching movies etc. Somehow this
everyday habit were to become their hidden force, meaning that they could fight crime and save the day. Among the powers of the young adults was dancing, being nice and calm, singing, lurking at others and more.

The newborn heroes we’re asked to design and build
their own costume and magical items. They we’re offered materials and objects known to a common household. An ironboard became a shield, a spirit leveler became a magic wand, a gardening vacume became a canon of mighty force, a clock became a timetraveling device and more.

Each hero was written a scene, telling a story of the heroes greatest fortunes or greatest demise. We roleplayed these scenes and developed what became a theatrical play about their great ventures.

THEN?
The theatrical play toured around Finland, Denmark and Sweden. Each time the play’s was shown in an urban setting, making use of public space as a place for fictitious endeavours.
