INFO
Transmutation is a live roleplaying scenario and performative excercise for 5-10 participants.
Transmutation is an unknown process of alteration which the players go through. It’s never revealed what is the origin or the result of the transmutation, the focus is instead on immersing and being the bits and pieces of this larger process at hand.
SETUP
Over the course of 4-5 hours players go through a workshop, a gameplay period and a debrief.
As part of the gameplay players are asked to speak random words without stopping. Instead of a known fictional setting, players are asked to follow this obstruction as the way to drive the gameplay forward. The constant flow of speech is considered a limitation and a possibility at the same time. It becomes an endurance excercise, which effects and creates an ever evolving soundscape. The player experience is then to explore and interact with one another in a state of limited communication or miscommunication.
END
For the workshop the players are given characters and social ties. They build up a story based on characters with everyday patterns of life. When the gameplay begins the transmutation begins and roles, stories seizes to exist. Possibly, what is left behind, is muscle memories, leftover reaction patterns, reflexes and impulses. The roles and stories are lost, but the ”thingness” of the body as a component in space, is not, and can influence play as the players see fit.
